I wish I had been able to make it, but I'm looking forward to the next one.

In regards to the Google Places question, I'd like to make an observation. I'm not a local SEO expert, but I see so many Google Places profiles that are incomplete, or just plain wrong. This may seem obvious, but if you are a newbie you'll have a better profile than 90% of them simply by completing as much as you can.

Add good photos, and short, useful videos related to your business. Ask your best customers to leave reviews/comments. Don't leave fake comments. Put yourself in your customers shoes and ask what they want to see in this profile that would convince them to call or visit your business.

For more advanced techniques, I'm sure there is someone in the group who could help, but don't overlook these basics. :)
